Oppenheimer Park Commemorative Projects

Renovations in Oppenheimer Park

Oppenheimer Park underwent a significant renovation that was completed in spring, 2010. Upgrades to the park include a new field house and washrooms, universally accessible walkways, children's playground, sports court with a basketball hoop, horseshoe pitch, patio spaces, and seating areas, central lawn area, trees and flowers, sub-surface drainage and a new irrigation system.

The Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation, in partnership with the Oppenheimer Park Commemorative Task Force is pleased to announce The Oppenheimer Park Commemorative Projects Initiative.

The Vancouver Park Board and the Oppenheimer Park Commemorative Task Force are currently working together to develop commemorative projects in Oppenheimer Park that celebrate the rich cultural history of the park and help build connections for the community in the future. The Task Force consists of representatives currently living in the community and others who have an historical affiliation with the area.
The recent renovation of the park and the new field house, which opened in spring, 2010, provides a focus for this initiative.

Many hours of community consultation identified four key commemorative themes for the commemorative projects:

The goal of the Park Board and the Task Force is to complete projects that reflect each of these four themes.

This initiative aligns with The Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation Arts Policy for community cultural development:

The Park Board holds a vision of a city where the arts are an integral part of everyday life; where community cultural development processes strengthen civil society, where parks and community centres reflect the cultural vitality of the community and where people are able to learn and express creativity in ways that build healthy communities.
