CHAIR'S REPORT

A celebration event was held last week at the Roundhouse for the first year of artworks created by seniors to improve health and well-being. Last weekend's successful Triathalon Union World Cup, which used Stanley Park, was a test event for the 2008 world championships.

COMMITTEE REPORT

On the last Planning Committee agenda was School Community Connections Pilot Program, a joint Park Board/School Board project to use high school gyms for physical activity programs on Saturdays.

STAFF REPORTS

Recycling Racks for Garbage Containers
The Park Board will pilot a recycling rack program to demonstrate a commitment to urban sustainability. Twenty five racks to hold recyclable cans and bottles will be attached to existing garbage containers.

Everett Crowley Park Habitat Rehabilitation and Park Use Plan - Contract Award
LEES and Associates Landscape Architects were awarded the contract for the Everett Crowley Park habitat rehabilitation and park use plan, for $34,890. This will allow continuation of capital improvements in the east side park, to include inventory work on plants, animals and birds; reports on and plans for Avalon Pond; and a large scale map showing trails, habitats and park features.

Jericho Marginal Wharf - Consultant Contract
The Board awarded a consultant contract to Moffatt and Nichol for $33,000 for Phase 1 and 8% of construction costs for Phase 2 of the Jericho Marginal Wharf project. The project will involve developing concepts for the repair and/or replacement of the old beach wharf. Public consultation will be held this fall to solicit feedback from residents and other stakeholders.

Pride Festival Special Occasion Licence
Permission was granted to the Vancouver Pride Society for a Special Occasion Licence in conjunction with their 29th Annual Festival on August 5th. Organizers are planning a beer garden at Sunset Beach.

Marpole-Oakridge Community Centre Renovation
The Board accepted a generous donation of $200,000 from the Marpole-Oakridge Community Association for interior renovations to the centre. Updates will create additional program spaces and are expected to be complete by Fall 2007.

NEXT MEETING

The next regular meeting of the Park Board will be held at 7 pm on Monday, June 25th at VanDusen Botanical Garden, 5251 Oak Street.
