PROGRAMS & SERVICES

Subsidies

All programs at Britannia are subsidized and the fees and charges are set at the lowest reasonable rate. Still, Britannia wants to support those who cannot afford the advertised cost of certain programs or activities. These initiatives can be found in the three following program areas:

Recreation and Community Education Courses
A program subsidy can be made on most recreation and community education courses by completing a “Request for Subsidy” form found at the Information Centre and/or Pool Cashier. Individuals can receive discounts on up to two courses per season.

Rink and Pool Activities
Many free activities and sessions are offered at the rink, pool and fitness centre each week and can be found in the appropriate section of the brochure and in the Free Programs and Activities link. In addition, Vancouver residents who meet certain income guidelines can apply for a Leisure Access Card (LAC) that is honoured here and at other Vancouver Park Board rink and pools. The LAC entitles users to FREE swimming, ice skating and skate rentals as well as 50% discount on fitness centre access, swim and skate lessons and flexi passes. LAC info and applications are available online and at the pool cashier's office.

Licensed Childcare
The Provincial Government may help with the cost of fees where family income is low, on licensed childcare programs offered at Britannia and its affiliated child care centres. For further info call Enquiry BC at 604-660-2421 and ask for MHSD Child Care Subsidy.

Britannia's subsidy policy

Britannia operates a wide range of recreation programs. It is Britannia’s policy to make programs as accessible as possible to people who cannot afford to pay the full fee. Britannia would like to assist those who cannot afford the advertised cost of certain programs or activities. At the same time, our operation needs to be financially viable. The board of management has approved the following for recreation programs operated by Britannia (a person may apply for a maximum of 2 subsidies per program per season):

Residents of Vancouver with a Leisure Access Card
Residents of the City of Vancouver showing a current LAC (Leisure Access Card) may receive up to a maximum of 50% off certain programs by completing an application form and presenting it to a cashier.

Residents of Grandview Woodland Strathcona with a Leisure Access Card
Residents of Grandview Woodland Strathcona showing a current LAC card may, with the approval of a programmer, receive a further discount if needed. Resident boundaries are: Broadway to the waterfront and Nanaimo to Clark.

Grandview Woodland Strathcona Residents without a Leisure Access Card
Participants living in the Grandview Woodland Strathcona area who do not have a LAC card and are in need of financial assistance may request a subsidy for certain programs up to 25% of course costs by completing an application for subsidy. For subsidies greater than 25% Grandview Woodland Strathcona residents need an appointment with a programmer and need to bring their Notice of Assessment from the previous year from Canada Customs and Revenue Agency. Resident boundaries are: Broadway to the waterfront and Nanaimo to Clark. Residents of the city of Vancouver outside the Grandview Woodland Strathcona area, without a Leisure Access Card are not eligible for subsidy.

Non-residents of the City of Vancouver are not eligible for subsidy.
