"The following organizations are affiliated with Renfrew Park Community Association but their programs and activities are independently organized.

 

Karate (8+yrs)

In GOJU-RYU,we emphasize both the Hard and Soft aspect of the martial art. We train in the traditional Japanese way where discipline and courtesy are as important as techniques. For information phone Alan Chan, 778-552-4668.

Judo (8+yrs)

Judo is a contact sport which includes throwing, grappling, choking and armlocks. Judo improves an individual’s physical fitness, speed, power, strength and flexibility. Judo utilizes virtually every muscle in the body and is an excellent overall conditioner. Although we do not teach self-defense in our program, knowledge of Judo will enable you to defend against an aggressor, learn to develop self confidence and self discipline. We will offer a basic self defense class which combines judo with other Martial Arts. For info call Frank at (604-299-5188)
At NAKASHIMA DOJO, we teach Kodokan Judo. Our students learn:
• Ukemi or learning to fall without injuring oneself.
• Major throwing techniques involving Hip, Leg and Shoulder Throws.
• Application & defending against Holdowns,Strangulations & Armlock ..techniques.
•.Preparation for proficiency in Judo Tournaments.
Our Judo program provides a unique recreational opportunity and can be practiced by any healthy individual. Our self defense program is more flexible than Judo and less physically demanding. Both of our programs are safe and enjoyable activities.

Aikido (19+yrs)

Aikido is a non-competitive Japanese martial art which emphasizes balance, calm, alertness and circular movement. Instead of meeting force with force, aikidoists use attackers’ energy against them. Kung Fu and Wushu (9+yrs)

Lions Gate Camera Club

Do You Know..THAT The Lions Gate Camera Club meets every Thursday evening at the Renfrew Park Community Centre? Come and see what we’re all about, whether your interests are in slides, prints, nature, people, abstracts or just plain having fun. Whatever your skill level, you are welcome to join us Thursdays from 7:15pm-9:45pm. Community Centre Annual Membership is included with LGCC membership.
