Out of School Care

Kristine Wong

Kristine Wong is the OSC Supervisor and has been part of Thunderbird OSC since 1992. She started off working at Thunderbird Community Centre as a Dance Instructor; then took an interest in School Age Child Care. She has also led Tot and Preteen programs in the past.

Lynn Wong

Lynn Wong has worked at Thunderbird OSC since 1991, when it first opened. She is the Special Needs Assistant Supervisor and has her School Age Child Care Certificate.

Margo Leung

Margo Leung first started at Thunderbird as a teenager in the Youth Leadership Program which is now known as YIP. Throughout the years she has worked in a number of areas, such as, Family Drop In, Front Office and Games Room. In the summers she has worked up at Sunrise Park and as a leader for Sunseekers. She is now in the OSC and has been there for 12 years. In her spare time she enjoys going for walks, reading and spending time with her family.

Carmen

Carmen Di Tomaso has been working at Thunderbird OSC for the past 11 years.  She has her School Age Child Care Certificate and enjoys planning fun arts and craft activities.

Andrea

Andrea Clark Geraghty is the Supervisor of the program and is returning for her 19th year at Thunderbird Preschool. Andrea completed her ECE Certification at Kwantlen University College and is currently working towards her Bachelor Degree in Child & Youth Care with the University of Victoria.

Erin

Erin Heppner is returning for her 8th year as an Early Childhood Educator at the preschool and is coordinating the Inclusion Programme.  Erin completed her ECE Certification and Special Needs training at Langara College.

Vivian

Vivian Chu is returning for her 5th year as an Early Childhood Educator at the preschool and is also coordinating the Inclusion Programme.  Vivian completed her ECE Certification at Capilano College, Special Needs training at Langara College, has her Bachelor Degree in Psychology and ECE with Simon Fraser University and has her TESOL Certificate.  She also is fluent in the Cantonese and Mandarin languages.

Sharole Morrison

Sharole Morrison has a background in Early Childhood Education. She has been at Thunderbird for over 19 years. She is currently the Supervisor of the Family Drop In Programs.

Sharole has two grown sons and has lived in this area all her life, where she coached little league and still volunteers on many boards. Sharole also works part-time as Security and an Usher at the Pacific Coliseum and has been doing this for 30 years. Sharole loves to work with children and finds the best part of her job is watching the children grow from infants and toddlers into their teens.

Rosanna Costantini

Rosanna Costantini loves children and seeing people smile. She has worked at Thunderbird for 5 years teaching infant and toddler programs, in particular the Mother Goose program. She also works and volunteers at Collingwood Neighbourhood House. She was born and raised in East Vancouver and speaks Italian, Spanish and English. She enjoys working and playing in the community including running, biking, dancing and singing.

Celeste

Celeste Lyon is a dance artist who graduated from MainDance and has been teaching dance for over seven years at many local community centres. Currently, she teaches at the Roundhouse, Kitsilano, Thunderbird and the West End Community Centre. Her classes focus on fundamental dance principals and body/spatial awareness techniques with the emphasis on fun and personal expression, creativity and self-empowerment. It is her joy and goal to see her students at move with ease, full expression and a smile on their face!

Chloe Ulis

Chloe Ulis is a professional artist and art instructor with a passion for helping others to develop their creativity. Chloe has a life-long background in the arts, an art degree from the Emily Carr Institute and she has been painting for 15 years. A certified Life Coach; Chloe’s classes are based on one-on-one art and creativity coaching. Throughout her life she has studied painting, mixed media collage, interior design, creative processes, bookbinding, music, & multi-media installation. Chloe Ulis School of Art offers unique art classes privately, in groups and online. We assist students to cultivate self-exploration, enhance artistic technique and develop personal style. Chris

Chris Wright has been playing badminton for over 25 years – initially taught by his father in the Okanagan. Chris played provincially and nationally with colleges in the Lower Mainland. He was coached at one time by the 16th ranked player in the world, and was among the top-three ranked singles players in the BCCAA. He is trained as a Canadian nationally certified coach, and currently trains and competes in the Lower Mainland.  He has been teaching badminton for more than seven years.

Chris also teaches guitar, which he has been playing for close to twenty years. He went through a Classical Music program, and as a singer/songwriter, was part of a Vancouver compilation recording project and cd. He is currently working on a solo project of original works. He has performed live at various venues around BC and has led music for his church for more than ten years, as well as at conferences and events throughout Canada.

Chris took undergraduate studies in Vancouver, with a double major in English Literature & Writing and a minor in Philosophy. He later attended Douglas College for music where he continued playing college badminton. He is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Theology and Art at Regent College, an international graduate school.  Chris is married and lives in Port Moody.

Donna Huang
Donna Huang is a Vancouver based piano teacher that has been teaching piano for about four years. She joined Thunderbird CC in 2009 as a piano instructor and has since then also expanded to other childrens' educational programs. She loves working with children and is passionate about teaching. With the hopes of one day becoming an elementary school teacher, she believes in making the world a better place and knows it starts from primary education. By making a difference in the lives of children everywhere, she hopes to be able to plant the seeds for a better world. She is currently a teacher candidate at the University of British Columbia Education Program.

Japleen

Japleen Gill grew up in the surrounding community and participated in many of the programs as a child and later volunteered in programs as a teenager in the YIP program which eventually led her to teaching programs. She has been working at Thunderbird for numerous years leading a variety of programs during the school year and working at the centre’s Sunseekers Day Camp during the summer. She is entering her fourth year at UBC majoring in Geography: Environment and Sustainability with a history minor and plans to enter into the faculty of education. She loves being outdoors and spending time with family and friends.

Jessica Jay

Jessica Jay is currently studying at UBC majoring in geography with a minor in history. She started volunteering at Thunderbird through the YIP program and has been working and volunteering with children of all ages since high school at community centers and elementary schools. She is presently teaching the "Little Programs" which are a series of classes for children of preschool age.

Lourdes Garza

Luly (Lourdes) Garza loves dancing. She was born and raised in Mexico, where she was surrounded by music and dance all the time. She started dancing when she was 5 years old and she hasn`t stopped since! She grew up dancing ballet, jazz, Latin and modern rhythms, but just discovered Zumba a couple of years ago when she moved to Vancouver. She loved Zumba so much that she decided to become an instructor in order to promote the Zumba revolution and share her passion with others. Luly loves teaching Zumba because it`s a combination of all her passions: fitness, dancing and helping others feel happy and good about themselves.  Luly is very enthusiastic, upbeat and friendly. Come and try one of her classes, you`ll have a blast!

Meshe Dumond
Meshe Dumond teaches voice at Thunderbird.  Everybody loves to sing, especially when they do it well!  Come to develop your shining, unique voice in a relaxed, supportive environment.  Meshe also plays piano/guitar and cello, sings and writes for the performing group Meshe & Moon Circus (www.mooncircus.ca). 
Michele Smith

Michèle Smith is a yoga instructor at Thunderbird Community Centre. She has been practicing yoga since the age of seven when her mother gave her a copy of Karen Zebroff’s Yoga for Kids and taught her the basic repertoire of poses. In 2010, she decided to become a yoga instructor so that she could help others experience the physical and mental benefits of yoga. Her classes are light-hearted and unintimidating, and draw on Hatha and Vinyasa styles of yoga to achieve strength, grace, and freedom.

Robin

Originally hailing from Ontario, Robin Thompson left art school and moved to British Columbia to pursue his dream of drawing his own brand of comic books. Robin has since formed his own publishing identity "Fun Men Press", with comic titles for all ages such as "Captain Space Man" and "Private Gut Buster". This inspired him to begin his own basic drawing programs for children. His workshops have reached community centres and elementary schools throughout Vancouver, including the annual "Word On The Street" literary festival. Robin continues working in Vancouver as an instructor, comic book artist, self-publisher, and freelancing artist. And he often sleeps in.

Scovia Maeko

Scovia Maeko is the Fitness Centre Attendant and is currently enrolled in the Sports Science program at Douglas College. She holds a BCRPA Weight Training Certificate and is looking forward to sharing her passion for health and fitness with the community. Come see Scovia on Saturday afternoons in the Fitness Centre!

Sonia Galbi

Sonia Galbi studied education and obtained a degree at Paris X University. She has more than 10 years experience in France as a teacher and educator. She created and implemented French language expression programs and environmental education for children between the ages of 5 and 12. In Vancouver she has taught French successfully for 3 years, to students from preschool through university level, in group and private lessons. In addition to teaching French, Sonia instructs gardening and environmental education classes for children between the aged of 5 to 12. Sonia has a vocation in teaching. She enjoys providing opportunities for children to learn through an interactive and multi-sensory approach that uses music, creative activities, active games and group projects as part of the learning experience.

Daisy

Yan (Daisy) Meng has been teaching Mandarin & Japanese for 10 years in Vancouver. She received her Bachelor Degree with English Language & Literature major in China; has a Master  Degree with Comparison of English & Chinese Languages & Literatures major from Japan. She teaches the Hanyu Pinyin system, reading, writing, speaking and Chinese culture. Daisy has developed and uses rich and fun teaching plans. Her teaching approach integrates skills with music, singing, art, games and video production into a creative curriculum. She also accommodates individual needs with a combination of theme teaching, peer tutoring and cooperative learning.

Yoko Tomita

Yoko Tomita is a community artist who works on murals, street banners, mosaic and lantern festivals in east Vancouver. Her artwork brings cheer to all ages while developing community arts in the multicultural aspect, educational and healthy environment.

Alexandra Ghihor Alexandra Ghihor graduated with her bachelor of arts in Anthropology and received her certificate in immigration consultancy last year. She is currently preparing to write her LSAT and hopes to one day become a lawyer. Alexandra became affiliated with the centre at the age of 6 (18 years ago) and has been volunteering and working at Thunderbird for 12 years. She has led and helped run a variety of programs for children, youth and seniors throughout the years, and this year she is leading several of the cooking programs!
Marisa Lee
Marisa Lee is in her fourth hear at UBC majoring in Women Studies with a sociology minor. She has worked and volunteered at community centres for the past 6 years. Marisa started teaching Baking Buddies and Cookie Monsterz at Thunderbird in April of 2008.

Lily

Lily Dong has worked with the Vancouver Park Board for over fifteen years. Prior to working at Thunderbird she worked at Ray-Cam Cooperative Centre, Killarney Community Centre and Britannia Community Centre. Lily has been the Community Recreation Coordinator at Thunderbird since 2000.   

Sonia B.
Sonia Brizzi has been employed with the Vancouver Park Board for almost 20 years. She began her career at Trout Lake CC working part-time in the office while working part-time at Canadian Memorial Pool as a lifeguard/swim instructor. After her first child was born in 1990 she continued to work part-time at Trout Lake then moved onto Hastings CC working regular part-time in the office for about 6 years. In 2000 she came to Thunderbird CC as a full-time office manager. At that time the Centre was under construction with the 2nd storey addition and renovations throughout the main floor and basement level. She attended Thunderbird elementary from K- grade 7. She is very familiar with this centre, the elementary school and the surrounding area. She loves to work with people and enjoy the diversity in recreation.  
Lorraine
Lorraine Chow has lived, worked and volunteered in the Thunderbird community for 26 years. She has vast knowledge and experience working with families, having raised 6 kids of her own. They attended both Thunderbird Elementary and Van Tech Secondary School. With strong roots in the community, she understands the issues faced by many in the neighbourhood. Working with our diverse multi-cultural seniors and families is both challenging and rewarding for her and she looks forward to continuing her work in these areas.
Tara M.
Tara Marshall is the Community Youth Worker. She has over 10 years of youth work experience and studied at the School of Child & Youth Care at UVIC. She loves the communtiy and invites anyone in to check out the excellent programs.
