Sunday in the Park with the
Vancouver Symphony Orchestra
Lumbermen's Arch - August 7th at 7 pm
August
2, 2005 - The VSO will stage a free concert in the natural amphitheatre
of Stanley Park's Lumbermen's Arch on Sunday, August 7th with a rehearsal
starting at 2 pm and the main event at 7 pm. Grab a blanket, bring a
picnic and let the dulcet tones of Vancouver's premier orchestra, under
the direction of maestro Bramwell Tovey, combine with the magic of a
summer evening. The VSO will perform light classics and popular favourites
with something for everyone's taste.
"Without music, life is a journey through the desert."
- Pat Conroy
In 2001, the VSO
performed a free concert
in Stanley Park to the
delight of 6,000 participants but had not been back due to funding constraints.
This year's free concert is being sponsored by a committee headed up
by the Vancouver Board of Trade – Spirit of Vancouver.
Concert goers are encouraged to take public transit or to park their
vehicles in central lots and catch the free Stanley
Park Shuttle bus to the Lumbermen's Arch site (this service ends
at 6:30 pm).
"If music be the food of love - play on." - William Shakespeare
