Project InformationRiley and Hillcrest Parks ImprovementsProject Type: Park Improvement Park Details: Hillcrest Park and Riley Park Key Dates: Budget: Contact: Project DescriptionPark Board has committed to net zero loss of the green space in Hillcrest and Riley Parks, after the new Hillcrest Centre is completed. This means that areas currently occupied under the Vancouver Curling Club and Riley Community Centre, Rink and Pool will be returned back to the green park space. Improvements to these two parks will be made after the demolition of the Vancouver Curling Club at Hillcrest Park (winter of 2011/2012) and the demolition of the Community Centre/Ice Rink and Percy Norman Pool at Riley Park (spring of 2012). The Park Board staff will retain a professional consulting team, and work with local residents and stakeholders to determine a preferred master plan for the improvements at Hillcrest and Riley Parks. Topics of interest for residents in the final master plan include: sport field configuration, community gardens, the farmer's market, public gathering spaces, youth amenities, children’s play area, parking requirements, tree protection, walking trails and a dog off leash area. Please stay tuned to the Park Board Website for project updates and for information about how to become engaged in the upcoming planning process. Community ParticipationThe Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation will invite public involvement as we move forward with the design of Hillcrest and Riley Parks after the demolition of the Vancouver Curling Club, Riley Community Centre/ Ice Rink and Percy Norman Pool, scheduled for winter 2011/spring 2012. The Park Board will hire a landscape architectural consultant to assist in the design and public engagement for the design of the parks. Stakeholder groups will be consulted and the general public will be given opportunity for providing input and feedback. Reports and Links |
