Project InformationTecumseh Park RedevelopmentPark Details: Tecumseh Park Project Type: Park Improvements / Upgrades Key Dates: Budget: Contact: Project DescriptionThe Vancouver Park Board is planning an upgrade of Tecumseh Park located near the corner of 43rd Avenue and Commercial Street. A total of $400,000 from the 2006-2008 Park Board Capital Plan is available for the park upgrade. The park currently includes mature trees, a children's playground and an open grassy area that undulates as a result of the underlying peat. The process to improve Tecumseh Park began when residents of the Victoria/Fraserview/Killarney area attended a Community Vision workshop and identified "Parks and Park Use" as a priority for their community. A subcommittee on Parks was formed by members of the local community. They identified making improvements to Tecumseh Park as a high priority. In June 2004, a community meeting was held in Tecumseh Park to discuss potential improvements; this discussion continued in a design workshop the following month. The first Park Board Open House was held on May 7, 2008. Ideas from this Open House as well as those from the previous design workshop will be used to develop two conceptual designs. These designs will be on display at an Open House scheduled for Tuesday July 8th from 6:30pm to 8:30pm at the Kensington Community Centre. Residents will be asked to provide their feedback at this time. Following the July Open House the preferred design was presented for approval to the Park Board Commissioners. The improvements to Tecumseh Park are scheduled to be substantially complete in May 2010. The playground area and a connecting path will be opened at this time to allow public to use the space. The majority of the grass areas will remain fenced off until the lawn becomes established later in the spring. Community ParticipationMay 2008 - Open House
