Synthetic turf playing field open house series

September 16 , 2009 (No. 53) - The Vancouver Park Board is implementing a long-range plan to develop six new lit synthetic-turf sport fields in the city for amateur sport play. Four of these fields have either been built or are currently under construction.

Open houses are being held to gather public input into where the next two fields should be built. The following sites have been short-listed for consideration:

  • Jericho Park – east or west field (1700 Discovery St)
  • Memorial South Park Oval or NW Field (41st Avenue at Prince Albert)
  • Rupert Park North (Rupert at Kitchener)
  • Beaconsfield Park all-weather field (Slocan and 17th Avenue)

Open houses will be held from 5 pm to 7 pm at the following Community Centres:

  • September 23: Renfrew Community Centre, 2929 E. 22nd Avenue
  • September 24: West Point Grey Community Centre, 4397 W. 2nd Avenue
  • September 28: Sunset Community Centre, 6810 Main Street
  • October 1: Hastings Community Centre, 3096 E. Hastings

You will have an opportunity to learn more about the proposed lit synthetic turf fields and to make comments on any aspect of this initiative with Park Board staff. Please join us.
