Sculpture Workshops
Sculpture workshops are for ages 8 and up.
All workshop participants will be invited to exhibit their sculptures with SSBC members from September 1 - 4, and are invited to join in the Reception September 2, 2006 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Masks (Clay)
Students will create masks emphasizing volume, proportion and expression. The masks will be fired in a kiln and become a permanent wall piece for the participants.(Kiln off premises).

Whimsical Spirits and Fairies (Clay, Plants, Cheese Cloth and Wax)
This group collaboration and installation will be placed in trees and bushes in the garden during the SSBC members/Participants Exhibition. The installation will be reminiscent of spirits and fairies. Permanent, although delicate creation.

Part 1 of 2 - Learn the Process in Order to Create Something in Bronze (Clay)
Introduction of the process required in order to create something in bronze demonstrating the steps it takes to reach that point. First class, participants will create a low relief in clay in preparation for Part 2 of the course (see below).

Part 2 of 2 - Learn the Process in Order to Create Something in Bronze (Clay, Plaster, Wax)
Participants will learn how to make a mold from their low reliefs in clay made in Part 1. They will further learn how to make a mold of the clay relief and will then learn how to make a wax of their relief from a plaster mold.
The next step would be to cast it in bronze (optional).
(Information will be available to participants if they wish to proceed to take their low relieves in wax to a foundry to be cast in bronze. Casting cost is not included in this workshop-optional only).

Part 1 of 2 - Create a Woman in Botanical Dress (Wire & Clay)
Participants will create a woman figure in clay around an armature. The participants will cover the woman's dress with shapes they have created of leaves and plant life of the garden in preparation for Part 2 of the course (see below).

Participants will explore a variety of ways to incorporate sculpture into their own gardens. Explore different mediums including living sculpture, bronze, concrete and clay. Learn design elements to help incorporate sculpture of various sizes into a garden of any size.

Make Paper Out of Your Own Garden & Trash (Paper & Water)
Make your own stationary out of what grows in your garden and paper you would otherwise throw away. Recycle your waste into your own personalized paper. You can make paper out of anything with a fiber including flowers, grass, fruits, leaves, bark, and vegetables- anything with a fiber. Examples of molded and shaped sculptural forms out of paper will also be presented.

Artists' Demonstrations in the Garden
Artists will work in the Garden at VanDusen during the summer months, demonstrating various processes, techniques, tools and materials. Come out and watch the artists at work and don't hesitate, to ask the artists questions.
