Field Sports

Roles of the Board and Sports Associations

The Vancouver Park Board and local sport associations are responsible for the organization of the City's field sports. Basically, the sport associations provide the program (organize players, coach, referees, etc.), while the Park Board provides the facilities (e.g. fields and diamonds).

The Park Board's objective for field sports is:

To provide an adequate supply of good quality playing fields.

The Board addresses the adequacy of supply through field allocation practices (which ensure efficiency of use) as well as developing new sport facilities when demand exceeds supply. Field quality is maintained by field maintenance, quality control (field closures, monitoring, etc.), as well as field improvement (drainage, irrigation, etc.).
