Vancouver is home to the largest Two-Spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, gender diverse, and queer (2SLGBTQIA+) community in Western Canada.
The 2SLGBTQIA+ community is a significant presence throughout Vancouver, centred along Davie Street in the West End and Commercial Drive in Grandview.
Every year, the Mayor proclaims the last week of July into the first week of August as Pride Week to show support for this diverse and vibrant community.

In February 2026, Council unanimously approved the renewed 2STGD+ Safety and Inclusion Action Plan PDF file (405 KB).
The framework outlines the our updated approach to advancing equity, safety and wellbeing for Two-Spirit, transgender and gender diverse (2STGD+) people in Vancouver and provides key actions we will take in 2026.
What's new at City facilities
Washroom signage
Many trans, gender diverse, and Two-Spirit individuals face incredibly damaging forms of discrimination and barriers to access basic forms of human needs.
In March 2017, washroom signage in City Hall was changed to state, "Trans People Welcome." Signs are being applied in other City-owned buildings with varying designs for multi-stall washrooms and universal single-use washrooms.
Each person self-determines which facility is most appropriate for them based on their gender identity.

Creating welcoming services for all
The Park Board has staff dedicated to Trans, Gender Diverse, and Two-Spirit Inclusion.
The Park Board has begun installing universal and gender neutral washroom signage at Park Board facilities, trans swim at Templeton Pool, trans self-defence classes, and trans awareness campaigns at all facilities.
