Archives - Ideas Workshop & Fair - February 28-29, 2004

Key stakeholders and the general public were invited to submit ideas for the future of Hastings Park and the PNE at an Ideas Workshop and Ideas Fair at the Agrodome. In all, 52 drawings were created by the participants and over 800 feedback forms were received.

Ideas Fair at-a glance

The participants were invited to envision activities, events and plans within a greened Hastings Park in the following three general categories:

• Annual Summer Fair
• Playland or other seasonal activities
• Permanent infrastructure: Park and buildings

All ideas are to build on and complement the Hastings Park Restoration Plan.

Annual Summer Fair

In one tent we focused on the annual summer fair and asked: Should there be one? If so, what should it be about? What type of activities, themes, issues or elements do you think should be considered for future summer celebrations in Hastings Park that will reflect Vancouver today and in the coming decades? How could it be integrated into the “greening” of Hastings Park?

Playland or other seasonal activities

In another tent we focused on Playland or other seasonal activities and asked: Should Playland continue? If not, are there other seasonal activities or uses which you would suggest? How could these seasonal activities be integrated into the “greening” of Hastings Park.

Permanent infrastructure: Park and buildings

In a third tent, we focused on the year-round activities -- the programming, rental and uses of the site and buildings -- and asked: What types of activities, uses, themes, issues or elements do you think should be considered for the year-round use of the site and venues? Are there additional permanent venues which you think should be on site?
