Hastings Racecourse

City of Vancouver - Hastings RacecourseHorseracing has been a part of Hastings Park since the 1880’s when local horsemen formed the BC Jockey Club and cleared land for a 15-acre track on what was then called East Park.

Currently Hastings Racecourse Globeoperates on approximately 45 acres of Hastings Park.

In 2005, in an effort to revitalize the Hastings racecourse facility, the City approved Hastings Entertainment Inc. application to renovate and alter the existing racetrack grandstand building to accommodate 600 slot machines and related entertainment, restaurant, and back-of-house functions. These improvements were completed in 2008.

Revenue generated from the Operating agreement between the City of Vancouver and Hastings Entertainment Inc. are allocated to the Hastings Park Improvement fund.

In March 2011, a new Hastings Park Childcare Centre will open in a building beside the Racecourse. The Centre will be owned by the City of Vancouver, funded and built by the Hastings Racecourse, and operated by the Kiwassa Neighbourhood House. There will be space for forty-four infants and toddlers, and children ages three to five years. A before and after-school care program for school children is also being considered. The Childcare Centre will give first priority to children of Hastings Racecourse employees, followed by children from the broader Hastings Sunrise community.
