Vancouver Police Judo Club SHUTTING DOWN

After over 15 years of operation, the Vancouver Police Judo Club will be shutting down. The last practice at the 312 Main Street gym will be on December 14th, 2011.

The coaches from VPD Judo have started a Police Judo program at Simon Fraser University Burnaby Campus in the west (wrestling) gym. As per an arrangement worked out with the SFU Faculty of Recreation, there is no charge for sworn police officers who would like to work out or drop-in for a class.

Classes are every Tuesday and Thursday from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The 2011 program at SFU will continue to run through until December 22nd.

Starting in January 2012, we will be running Police Judo three times a week at the SFU Burnaby campus on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday evenings.

For those who have kids, we are also currently running a youth program at SFU, as well. For 2012, this will start January 15th and run every Sunday for a 10-week semester from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.

To all those who have come out and participated over the years, thanks very much for the support and help on behalf of all the coaches. Special thanks goes to civilian head coach Brian Shipper, who has kept this program running over the years.

Please feel welcome to drop by anytime for a work-out or practice at SFU - no experience or time commitment necessary. We are happy to host any police officers when they are able to make it. The training is well-suited for law enforcement and it is great physical conditioning.

For more information or questions, please refer to the SFU Faculty of Recreation - Martial Arts - Police Judo.

New Police Judo Program

The coaches from VPD Judo have started a new Police Judo program at SFU.

Starting in January 2012, classes will be held three evenings a week.
