The VPD & The Vancouver 2010 Olympics

Welcoming the World

The Vancouver Police Department's goal for the 2010 Olympics is that they be safe, accessible and welcoming. We want the world to appreciate that Canada is an open and free society that places the highest values on the rights of the individual, not the least of which is the right to assembly and free speech.

To celebrate this right and ensure the safety of all who choose to avail themselves of it, we have taken steps to facilitate the public gatherings of both celebrants and protestors. We have made sure that high profile areas and visible vicinities near Olympic venues are not earmarked for other purposes that would push public gatherings further away.

To find out more about the VPD and our plans for the Olympics, see VPD Olympics FAQs (PDF).
