Superintendent Daryl Wiebe
Superintendent Daryl Wiebe is in charge of Information Services, within the Support Services Division. Information Services includes the Communications Section, the Court and Detention Services Section, the Information Management Section, the Information Technology Section, and the Information and Privacy Unit. This diverse collection of work areas encompasses a broad spectrum of support work for operational policing, and is staffed by 248 sworn and civilian personnel.
Superintendent Wiebe graduated from Royal Roads University in 2006, with a Master of Arts Degree, specializing in Justice and Public Safety Leadership. He has completed two years of study in Criminology at Simon Fraser University, along with numerous courses in Human Resource Management at BCIT. He has also completed dozens of operational, investigative and police management courses through the Justice Institute of B.C.
Superintendent Wiebe joined the Vancouver Police Department in 1981. In addition to patrol assignments in all four patrol districts, he was assigned to Traffic Enforcement for five years, where he was a member of the Vancouver Police Motorcycle Drill Team. Between 1991 and 1996, Superintendent Wiebe worked as a dog handler, with Police Service Dog "Brock." Following this, he worked as an investigator in the Recruiting Unit for two years, after which he was promoted to sergeant.
Superintendent Wiebe was the implementation manager and training coordinator for Phase I of the PRIME-BC Project. He returned to police operations in 2002, where he worked as a patrol supervisor for one year. He was then seconded to the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General, where he returned to the PRIME-BC project as a regional project manager for the five other municipal police departments located on the Mainland of B.C.
Superintendent Wiebe served as the officer in charge of Planning and Research from April 2004 until September 2006.
Superintendent Wiebe spent three months working on a special project, related to the Strategic Plan of the Vancouver Police Department. The impetus for this project was the completion of his research and Master of Arts thesis. He returned to police operations in December 2006, returning to District Three as the Patrol Commander.
Superintendent Wiebe is one of five designated Critical Incident Commanders within the VPD. He serves on an assortment of committees dealing with staffing, shifting, uniforms and the Strategic Plan, and continues as the Vancouver Police Department representative on the PRIME-BC Governing Council.
Superintendent Wiebe is the recipient of three Chief Constable’s Commendations and four Unit Citations. He has two children and is active within his community. Superintendent Wiebe coaches rep softball with the Fraser Valley Fusion, and officiates basketball at the high school, college, university and semi-pro levels.
