Superintendent Jeff Sim

Superintendent Jeff SimSuperintendent Jeff Sim is in charge of the Vancouver Police Department’s Personnel Services, overseeing three key sections: Human Resources, Recruiting and Training, and Professional Standards. These sections work to achieve the overall goal of recruiting and hiring the best police officers and civilians, and then providing the necessary support to develop them to their full potential.

As an inspector he was assigned to the Operations Division as Officer in charge of District Three. He has also served as inspector in charge of the Human Resources Section, inspector in charge of the Emergency Response Section and previous to that as a Duty Officer. In addition to his regular duties as an inspector, he was also one of the VPD’s Critical Incident Commanders, responding to and commanding many Emergency Response Team incidents.

Superintendent Sim began his policing career in 1982 when he joined the Lethbridge City Police Force. After spending four years in Lethbridge, he joined the VPD in 1986. Since joining the VPD, he has been a patrol constable in Districts One, Two, and Three, was on the Emergency Response Team, was assigned to the Training Section, and was seconded to the JIBC – Police Academy as a program coordinator. He was promoted to sergeant in 1997 and spent several years as a patrol supervisor. He was also assigned to the Career Development Unit in the Human Resources Section from 2001 until his promotion to inspector in 2004, where he worked on a variety of projects.

Prior to beginning his policing career, Superintendent Sim completed a diploma in Law Enforcement from the Lethbridge Community College. He continued his education while a member of the VPD and has completed a certificate in Adult Education from the University of Victoria, a Bachelor of Arts in Adult Education from the University of the Fraser Valley, and a Graduate Certificate in Strategic Human Resource Management from Royal Roads University. Superintendent Sim has also completed numerous in-service courses through the JIBC and other police education facilities.

Superintendent Sim is the recipient of a Chief Constable’s Unit Citation, a Superintendent’s Commendation, and two Inspector Commendations.

Superintendent Sim and his wife Monica have two active school-aged children and are very involved in their year-round sport and recreational activities.Ss
