VPD CADET program
Applications now being accepted until May 31st
for the 2017/2018 school year.
Being a teenager in today’s world isn’t easy. Teens have to constantly make decisions that could affect them their entire lives – and sometimes it may be difficult figuring out which way to turn.
Our officers are here to help with those tough decisions. We want to help you learn how to handle conflict, and how you can become a leader in your community.
How are we going to do that?
We are inviting you inside our police family, so you can see "behind the scenes" how police work is done. You’ll train with police officers, including firearms training and reality-based simulations, and learn leadership skills.
You’ll learn about gangs, what police do at crime scenes, how to prevent bullying and how you and your friends can stay safe on the internet.
We’ll also talk about things like managing your money, how to keep fit and strong, and how to become a mentor - someone that people look up to.
During the school year, cadets will meet on Saturdays at the VPD’s Tactical Training Centre. There will be field trips, team-building exercises, camping trips, and sporting events.
In the VPD Cadet Program, you’ll have fun working hard, participating in team activities and making new and lasting friendships.
Who are we looking for?
- students currently in Grade 9, 10 and 11 at Vancouver schools or who reside in Vancouver
- someone with no serious arrests or convictions
- a person who wants to graduate and who doesn’t miss a lot of school
- people who want to learn skills to help themselves succeed in the future
- someone who wants to make their community a better place
Rise to the challenge and become a VPD Cadet.
