Traffic Authority Program

The Vancouver Police Traffic Authority Program started in 1999 to assist the Vancouver Police Department with traffic and pedestrian control functions at special events in the City of Vancouver.

The Vancouver Traffic Authority is a non-union, sworn Special Municipal Constable appointment under the Police Act. It is co-ordinated by the Emergency and Operational Planning Section of the Vancouver Police Department. Traffic Authority members are uniformed personnel that have restricted peace officer authority limited to performing specific duties authorized by statute. The primary function of the Traffic Authority is to provide traffic direction.

See Join the VPD for information on employment opportunities with the Traffic Authority Program.
