Commercial Vehicle Team
The Vancouver Police Department Commercial Vehicle Team was
formed in September 1992 in response to concerns regarding commercial
vehicle safety and movement within the city. Vancouver remains the only
police department in B.C. that has a dedicated commercial vehicle
enforcement team. The squad currently has four members assigned to it, one
of whom is responsible for taxi and limousine regulation in Vancouver.
The main areas of responsibility are the enforcement of rules
and regulations pertaining to commercial vehicles including:
All members are trained accident investigators, commercial
vehicle inspectors and dangerous goods inspectors. They have also been
trained in air-brake system operations, inspection and enforcement.
Members are also designated as Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance
(CVSA) Inspectors. These are North American standards that apply to
commercial vehicles. This training gives members the authority to
remove vehicles from the road that are unsafe and which did not comply
with minimum safety and equipment.
