History
The Vancouver Police Drill Team was established in 1954 by
Sgt. "Cookie" Ryan and the members of the traffic section.
The Vancouver Police Motorcycle Drill team was originally trained by
the late Mr. Trev Deeley, he was the only civilian to have ever ridden
on the team. The late Mr. Trev
Deeley was awarded special Constable
status at the time, which allowed him to take part in the activities.
He owned and operated a Harley Davidson motorcycle dealership and a non-profit
museum in Richmond, British Columbia.
Displays during the 1950s and 1960s involved acrobatic riding and
were a familiar sight at parades and stadium events. Today’s display
has evolved into a series of high-speed maneuvers that demonstrate the
team's extensive riding skills as well as the machine's capabilities.
The team employs Harley
Davidson motorcycles exclusively. The
Drill team performs in local venues such as the Point Grey parade, and
venturing as far as Calgary, Seattle and Penticton.
Members involve themselves in community service and
fundraising events whenever possible.
The team has been acknowledged by security services and
governments from around the world.
