United States Waiver

If you need special permission to cross the border into the United States because of actual or suspected criminal activity, you may need to obtain a "U.S. Waiver" from the U.S. Department of Justice (USDOJ). To apply for a waiver, you must submit the following documents to the USDOJ:

  • form I-192 – Application for Advance Permission to Enter as Non-Immigrant
  • form G325A – Biographic Information
  • a set of your fingerprints on RCMP C216 form
  • a certified criminal record document from the RCMP in Ottawa
  • you may be asked to provide a local court document if there are charges involved
  • if there are pardoned criminal convictions involved, a request can be made through the Federal Privacy Act for a certified document of pardoned offences by visiting www.http://pbc-clcc.gc.ca or calling (613) 998-6362 for more information.

Form I-192 and G325A are United States government forms, and are included in a package of materials that can be obtained at the U.S. / Canada border. The package includes detailed instructions on obtaining a U.S. Waiver.

The VPD can provide you with a RCMP C216 form and can provide fingerprinting service (note that the Vancouver Police Department does not accept / process U.S. Waiver requests – these must be submitted to the U.S. Department of Justice).

Consult the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) websites for more information on U.S. Waivers.
