Police Officers

Recruiting Vancouver's Finest to Go Beyond the Call

The Vancouver Police Department is a diverse police force, reflecting the rich tapestry of the many communities and lifestyles that make up our city. We are one of the largest municipal police forces in Canada and we are recognized as an innovator in Canadian law enforcement.

The VPD hired the first female police officer, started the first Marine Squad and was the first to introduce computer terminals in police vehicles. We are leaders in computerized crime analysis, physical control tactics and organized crime investigation strategies.

We are committed to being the best police force in Canada and that commitment begins with recruitment. We're looking for individuals who reflect the ethnicities and lifestyles of our city; individuals who have a passion for policing and a desire to make a difference every day.

Policing with the VPD is not just a job, it's a career.

Recruiting Message for 2011

In the time leading up to the 2010 Olympics, the Vancouver Police Department bolstered its ranks with the hiring of over 200 new recruits.

As a result of these exceptional numbers, our hiring needs were reduced in 2010.

Our numbers fluctuate from year to year, but we are always searching for the best candidates.

We anticipate that our needs will increase for 2011 and 2012. Now is the time to attend an information session and to submit your application. Don't miss out on your opportunity for a career with the Vancouver Police Department.

View a short video on the Department's hiring outlook for 2011 and 2012.

If you think you have what it takes - common sense, integrity and a caring nature - you may be exactly what we are looking for. Everyone in our Recruiting Unit is pleased to assist and answer your questions on how to improve your competitiveness.
