Vancouver Police Crime Prevention Society

Vision & Mission

In recent years, Federal, Provincial and Municipal governments have been unable to provide sufficient funds for additional staffing and equipment for the various policing organizations to curb a disproportionately increased crime rate. The predominant factor creating this strain on resources has been a significant increase in population of the Lower Mainland.

The vision of the Vancouver Police Crime Prevention Society (VPCPS): "Promoting Safe Communities in Vancouver".

The Society's mission is to:

  • promote and foster safer communities throughout Vancouver
  • to improve the quality of life through the development and enhancement of crime prevention programs and community education

The Vancouver Police Crime Prevention Society is registered as a charity and governed by a Board of Directors representative of the community.

Goals

  • Assist Vancouver Police Department, business associations, community groups and individuals in the implementation of community-based crime prevention programs.
  • Promote inter-agency cooperation on matters dealing with crime.
  • Encourage coordination of crime prevention resources.
  • Act as coordinator to support the efforts of community crime prevention organizations and societies.
  • Promote community participation in crime prevention programs through education and outreach, training and empowering Vancouverites to keep Vancouver a safe and healthy place in which to live and work.

Message from Chief Constable Jim Chu

The Vancouver Police Department has always been very grateful and appreciative of all the assistance it has received from the Vancouver Police Crime Prevention Society since its inception in 1991.

A police department cannot function effectively without the support of the community it serves. The volunteer members of the VPCPS have been a valuable conduit for the Department to the community. The Society has often selflessly taken on the role of seeking out community support and resources for special projects within the VPD that might not ordinarily be funded through the Department's operating budget. This assistance has allowed the VPD to truly go Beyond the Call in terms of the service we provide to the citizens of Vancouver.

We thank the members of the Society for all they do and wish them well in all future endeavors.

Jim Chu
