  • The west sidewalk is now for pedestrians only in both directions
  • New crossing signs at Pacific and at Cornwall & 1st Ave directing pedestrians to the west sidewalk

Walking across the bridge is becoming a whole lot safer with the dedicated walking path. Many accidents on the bridge have involved collisions between cyclists and pedestrians. The west sidewalk is now for pedestrians only, the east sidewalk is for northbound cyclists only and the west curb lane is for southbound cyclists.

The restriction to one west sidewalk and the necessity of having to cross several main arterial crosswalks will create some inconvenience. For pedestrians approaching the bridge from the east side of Burrard Street and wishing to go north, the best access is to follow new crossing signs at Burrard Street and 1st Avenue. At Pacific Boulevard, pedestrians wishing to travel south, have the choice to walk under and around the bridge via Beach Avenue or cross Burrard Street to the west side to access the sidewalk. All pedestrians should familiarize themselves with the cyclist and motorist routes. View map
