Types of permit zones

There are three types of residential parking zones in Vancouver.

Resident Permit Parking (RPP) zones

RPP zones:

  • Allow you to park on multiple blocks in your neighbourhood when you purchase a permit
  • Are enforced by staff doing regular patrols, and by request
  • Can be requested through a survey process

Temporary parking permits are available for resident permit parking zones.

Vancouver Resident Permit Parking (VRPP) zones

VRPP zones:

  • Allow you to park on a single block when you purchase a permit
  • Are enforced by staff doing regular patrols, and by request
  • Can be requested through a survey process

Temporary parking permits are available for Vancouver resident permit parking zones.

Resident Parking Only (RPO) zones

The RPO program was cancelled in January, 2010. Existing RPO zones have been grandfathered into the residential parking system, however, the City no longer creates or extends RPO zones. All new restricted parking is now permit based.

RPO zones:

  • Allow you to park on your block without a permit
  • Are enforced on a complaint basis only

Where RPO regulations are ineffective, residents may request a change to their block regulations and be incorporated into a new residential permit parking plan.
