Parking meter tips

Parking meters are in effect from 9am to 10pm, 7 days a week, including statutory holidays.
Report a broken meter. Do not park at it. You will get a ticket.
Daytime rates (9am to 6pm) may be different from evening rates (6pm to 10pm).
Before paying, check if there are parking restrictions in effect, such as rush hour, special events, or construction.
Pay with the PayByPhone or Hotspot app and get text alerts when your session expires and extend it.

Time-limited and pay parking is located throughout the city, typically in areas that have high parking demand.

Parking time limits, pay parking, and other regulations help to:

Make sure you can find on-street parking near destinations such as shops, services, and amenities
Manage streets in industrial areas
Serve residential visitors and service providers in denser neighbourhoods
Minimize unnecessary searching for parking, congestion, traffic safety risks, GHG production, and air pollution

Pay (meter) parking
- Prices vary throughout the city.
- Prices are set based on demand and may vary by time of day.
- Prices are adjusted annually based on parking data collected in the previous year.
- You can be fined under Parking Meter By-law 2952 (18 MB) for:
  - Not paying the parking meter or pay station
  - Parking for longer than the allotted time allowed at a parking meter or pay station
  - Parking at a broken meter or pay station without paying.
Time-limited parking
- Parking is typically allowed for 1 or 2 hours.
- Allowed parking durations typically get shorter as demand for parking increases.
- Time-limited parking is typically replaced with pay (meter) parking if time-limits alone are not effective at managing parking.
What to look for
- Time limits displayed on signs.
- Temporary no parking signs for construction, street cleaning, and filming.

Public parking lots
We have a number of public pay parking lots throughout the city. These public parking lots:
- Service busy commercial areas, parks, and entertainment areas
- Are owned and leased by the City of Vancouver to EasyPark, a City-owned, non-profit company
