Urban Forestry

There are an estimated 1.6 million trees in Vancouver's parks and along its streets. Stewardship of this urban forest not only adds aesthetic value and habitat for wildlife, it also enhances the ability to absorb air pollutants, including particulate matter, ground level ozone and carbon dioxide.

Vancouver Park Board

Vancouver has more than 200 diverse parks, including major destination parks, small neighbourhood parks, remnant woodlands and ravines, waterfront greenways and beaches, display gardens, botanical collections and golf courses. Vancouver Park Board staff are responsible for the care and maintenance of all public trees, including all street trees. Our dedicated arborists grow many of the thousands of new trees planted each year at Vancouver's own tree farm.

Together with neighbourhood and stewardship groups, schools, and other agencies, the Park Board promotes and enhances our urban forest to ensure the beauty, health and livability of our city.
