One Day

City government can't protect the climate with infrastructure and policy alone - that's why we launched the One Day campaign for the community. One Day is about simple steps to reduce energy at home and on the road. You can be part of it.

One Day is a City of Vancouver initiative that encourages people to live their lives in a more sustainable way. It is based on the idea that if we make small changes, one day at a time, we can make Vancouver a cleaner, greener and healthier city. But One Day is more than this. It is a broad idea, an umbrella that embraces the efforts of numerous individuals, groups and organizations. It is also a way to bring about change by working at the community level.

One Day focuses on a list of specific actions that individuals can take. The actions selected are relatively easy and have a significant impact on GHG reduction. The actions include the following:

  • driving less (bicycling, car-sharing, ride-sharing, transit)
  • purchasing a fuel efficient vehicle
  • turning down the temperature
  • avoiding idling cars
  • keeping car tires properly inflated
  • installing low-flow showerheads
  • switching to cold water washing
  • making energy-efficient retrofits to homes (windows, insulation, furnace replacements, etc.)

One Day is a portal to connect people to existing programs and the information and resources needed to take action to reduce energy use. The One Day website has something for everyone; an events calendar, success stories, news and links to related community initiatives that people can get involved in
