Awards of Excellence 2014 trophies

The Awards of Excellence recognize outstanding achievements made by individuals — adults, youth, and children — and organizations.

With awards in five categories, the Awards of Excellence celebrate excellence in achievements that benefit all of us by making Vancouver a greener, healthier, more diverse, and accessible city.

Who is eligible for nomination


Any person who lives, works, volunteers, or goes to school in Vancouver, including the University Endowment Lands, can be nominated for an award, or multiple awards.

Adults will be judged separately from children and youth 21 years and younger nominated in each category.


The City welcomes nominations of the following Vancouver-based organizations:

  • Non-profit
  • Groups or service clubs
  • Educational institutions
  • Hospitals
  • Government departments (federal and provincial) 
  • Unions
  • Professional and trade associations
  • Media organizations
  • Public or private corporations 

Who is not eligible for nomination

Nominations for City of Vancouver employees, departments and elected officials are not accepted in any category.

Self-nominations are accepted only for nominations of organizations. Self nominations are not accepted for nominations of individuals.

Selection process

  1. All nomination forms are received online.
  2. Nominations are reviewed to ensure they meet eligibility criteria.
  3. A single peer review committee, including partner organizations providing expertise, and youth representatives, reviews eligible nominees.
  4. The peer review committee recommends a short list to the Council nomination committee. 
  5. The Council nomination committee makes its final recommendations to City Council.
  6. City Council approves the recommendations.
  7. Nominees are notified. 

Selection criteria

  • Scope: The range of activities and breadth of influence or inspiration of the achievement 
  • Achievement: The significance of the achievement itself, with consideration given to creativity, innovation, and general significance of the activity for the individual or community
  • Impact: The potential for fundamental and lasting positive change
  • Method: The manner in which the activities were performed, for example, with creativity, innovation, inclusivity, consultation, and collaboration


Submissions are due by 5:00pm on Wednesday, May 13, 2015.
