“Oscar” tells the story of the spectacular life and flamenco works of dancer, choreographer and maestro Oscar Nieto, brought to life by the professional flamenco dancers he mentored throughout his storied career and the musicians with whom he has shared the stage. “Oscar” features an award-winning cast of five dancers, two guitarists, two singers and a percussionist performing a selection of Oscar Nieto’s most treasured dance and music works. Spanning from the early 1970s to the present, these choreographies are interspersed with archival material and stories from Oscar’s own life — from his youth working the fields from Texas to Los Angeles, to his years touring internationally with Jose Greco, Lola Montes, and Antonio’s Ballet Siluetas, to his decades in Vancouver, where he continues to build a rich and inclusive community of talented and joyful flamenco artists and aficionados.
“Oscar” is a work of love, created in collaboration with artists he has mentored, in celebration of all that he has given the flamenco and dance communities of Canada, and in close collaboration with Oscar himself. A nationwide community of artists, aficionados and fans will gather in Vancouver to celebrate this truly remarkable man.

Repair Cafe

Repair Cafés bring together local repair volunteers with a knack for repairing who are willing to lend their knowledge and show event participants how to carry out repairs. Community members are encouraged to bring computers/laptops, bicycles, small appliances, textiles, and electronics to be diagnosed and, if possible, repaired.

Please note:

Only 1 item per person per event
Visitors must sign a waiver of liability to participate
New replacement parts are not provided by Repair Cafe or volunteer fixers
We are unable to repair large appliances at this time
Ensure your item is clean of dirt, food particles or grease. Clothing/textiles should be laundered – fixers may refuse to repair if the item is not clean

Adopt a Catch Basin: Jim Deva Plaza Leaf Clearing

It's 'grate' to prevent flooding - Gather some friends or family and clear some catch basins! With heavier rain, falling leaves and other debris of city life, clogged catch basins can lead to flooded streets and trash washing into adjacent waterways.

Help keep our streets safe and catch basins clear - join us at Jim Deva Plaza to learn more about the sewer system, clear some catch basins, and make new friends. Your neighbours and the catch basins will thank you!

Bring warm, comfortable clothing. Catch basin clearing equipment and light refreshments will be provided.

Adopt a Catch Basin is a program run by the City of Vancouver, providing support and equipment to help residents keep their catch basins clear to prevent street flooding.
