The City activated its Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) and further created a dedicated COVID-19 Task Force, led by Vancouver Fire Chief Darrell Reid, to respond to the quickly-changing crisis within our community.
The EOC acts as a coordination and communications centre to provide fast, informed decision-making for emergencies, with internal and external partners contributing to our efforts. The City of Vancouver’s EOC structure is customized to liaise with some of the day-to-day functions found within the City and draws an enormous amount of skill and knowledge from staff.
The COVID-19 Vancouver Task Force's mission statement PDF file (4 MB) outlines four overarching goals that guide its work and priorities:
- Save lives
- Reduce the impact of COVID-19 on Vancouver
- Prepare Vancouver for a strong recovery
- Take care of each other
Who is contributing to the COVID-19 response
Staff from all departments across the organization are contributing to our COVID-19 response. Some are filling EOC positions and other teams are continuing to provide services that keep our City running and support our community. It’s truly an incredible team effort.

To support physical distancing, EOC staff are currently working at various facilities and remotely from home.
