Getting a dog licence

All dog owners must ensure they have a licence and renew it annually.

In Vancouver, all dogs and service dogs over three months of age must have a dog licence. Review the benefits

 If you live on the Musqueam Indian Reserve or the University Endowment Lands, buy your dog licence in person or by phone.

Renew a licence

  • $47 (no tax) per dog, per year
  • Pay with Visa, Mastercard, or American Express
  • Renew before your licence expires to avoid a $10 late penalty

Update or cancel a licence

  • Update your address or contact information, add a new family member, or add information about your dog
  • Cancel if you have moved out of Vancouver, gave your dog to another family, or your dog has passed away

Replace a lost tag

  • $6 (tax included)
  • Replace any time, or wait until you renew your licence

Request a replacement tag online 

Transfer a licence

  • Provide proof of your valid licence from the other municipality
  • Expiry date will be the same as the pre-existing licence
  • $6 (tax included)

Dog licences are not transferable to other owners. The new owner must apply for a new licence.
