Notice of fire code violations
Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services issues two types of fire inspection notices:
Notice of Violation
A Notice of Violation means that a fire bylaw was broken at the address written on the violation.

If you receive a Notice of Violation
After a Notice of Violation has been issued, the fire inspector must return for a re-inspection to confirm that all required work has been done.
The work is written on the Notice of Violation.
You must follow the instructions left by the Fire Inspector; otherwise legal action can be taken.

Fee
- $100 plus taxes for each hour, or partial hour, based on a minimum of two hours.
Important note The fee is based on how long the re-inspection takes.
How to submit fee payment
- The remittance stub from the bottom of the invoice must be provided at the time of payment.
- Invoices are sent approximately 3 weeks after the inspection has been completed.
You can submit your fee payment either by:

Alarm triggered
An alarm going off when there is no fire.

Infraction
Other violations of the fire code, such as non-working fire alarms or locked exit doors.

Unable to Inspect Premises Notice
The Fire Bylaw requires that all businesses are inspected regularly by fire hall staff or a fire inspector.
An Unable to Inspect Premises Notice is issued when the fire hall staff or fire inspector was unable to inspect the business listed on on your notice.

If you receive an Unable to Inspect Premises Notice
After a Notice of Violation has been issued, the fire inspector must return for a re-inspection to confirm that all required work has been done.
Within 14 days from the date the notice was issued, request a re-inspection online.
The issue date is written in the lower left corner of your notice.
