Arbutus Greenway buzzing with summer activities

August 24 2018 –

While you're out enjoying the many events happening across the city this summer, walk, bike, or roll to the Arbutus Greenway to participate in the many public space activations taking place on the corridor. With over 3,000 people walking and cycling the greenway daily, you’ll be in good company. 

Nesting Nest

57th Avenue and Arbutus Greenway

To celebrate the 27th International Ornithological Congress coming to Vancouver, this giant bird nest sculpture has been temporarily installed on the Arbutus Greenway. Designed by artists Christian Blyt, Cameron Cartiere, and Jaymie Johnson, this sculpture contains numerous nests woven from invasive plant species. Nesting Nest will be perched on the greenway until Thursday, September 13.

On the Wings: August 24th, 9-10pm

57th Avenue and Arbutus Greenway

Come visit Nesting Nest for an evening of live music and animated projections of crows landing on the Arbutus Greenway. The event, known as “On the Wings”, is the last of a three-part series of visual projections happening across the city.

The Walk to End Social Isolation: September 9, 10am

Kerrisdale on the Arbutus Greenway

This three-kilometre walk begins with one group starting at 33rd Avenue and the other at 52nd Avenue. The groups will convene at Kerrisdale Park at 11am to hear prayers from an Indigenous elder, listen to speakers sharing personal stories of overcoming loneliness, and develop strategies to prevent isolation.

Ping Pong at City Farmer: Weekly

Maple Street at Arbutus Greenway

Every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 11am to 3pm, City Farmer will be hosting a ping pong tournament on the greenway. Come learn about urban agriculture while connecting with a new neighbour or an old friend.

Play Streets 2.0: Every Saturday in September from 11am to 3pm

Overflow parking lot of Kerrisdale Arena and the Arbutus Greenway

The Dunbar Village Community Services Society will be holding a number of events to promote different community sports, varying from hockey and soccer to family biking. Their first event is Sunday September 9 where they will have demo cargo bikes, trikes, and e-bikes. The rest of the events will take place on Saturdays for the duration of the month (September 15, 22 and 29).

The Arbutus Greenway temporary path has quickly become one of Vancouver’s many treasures. As we begin detailed design for the future greenway, we encourage people to connect with their city and with each other along this nine-kilometre linear corridor of vibrant public realm.
