Burrard Bridge safety and structural improvements

February 28 2014

Burrard Bridge

The 81-year-old Burrard Bridge is undergoing safety and structural repairs.

During this work, there will be some delays to traffic flow.

What to expect

Starting March 3, 2014, vehicle lanes will be reduced from four to three, with one lane southbound and two lanes northbound.

Drivers should consider alternate routes such as the Granville Bridge, which has eight lanes. Access for cyclists and pedestrians will be maintained on Burrard Bridge.

Why are we doing this work

To ensure the bridge remains safe and in a state of good repair for many years to come, the City is replacing 27 bearings and 19 expansion joints, and performing concrete repairs and a deck inspection over the next four months.

Expected completion

Work is expected to be completed by July 2014.
