Find out about Christmas tree chipping

Make recycling your Christmas tree a New Year tradition!

Once you’ve removed all the tinsel and decorations from your live, cut tree you have three free options to get your tree recycled.

Lions Club chipping events

In partnership with the Lion’s Club, residents are invited to bring their Christmas trees to one of the four locations listed below on Saturday, January 7 and Sunday, January 8 from 10:00am to 4:00pm.

Donations of cash and non-perishable food items will also be accepted and will be distributed to local charities.

  1. Kerrisdale Community Ice Rink parking lot
    5670 E Blvd, north of 41st Ave
  2. Sunset Beach upper parking lot
    Beach Ave and Broughton St
  3. Kitsilano Beach parking lot
    Cornwall Ave and Arbutus St
  4. Trout Lake Community Centre

Last year the Lions Clubs chipped over 2,200 trees. Over 60,000 trees have been chipped since the City and the Lions Club first partnered to recycle Christmas trees in 1996.

Residential collection

Christmas trees will be collected citywide the weekend of January 14-15. To ensure your tree is collected, please follow these guidelines:

  • Set it out before 7:00am on Saturday, January 14, 2016
  • Trees should be set out on their own and laid on their sides
  • Do not put your tree inside your Green Bin
  • Do not bag or bundle your tree

Free drop-off at the Landfill or Transfer Station

Christmas trees can be dropped off until January 31 - at no charge - to the Vancouver South Transfer Station or Vancouver Landfill.
