Vancouver has deployed a 30-member contingent of its Heavy Urban Search and Rescue (HUSAR) team to Calgary to assist with ongoing flood relief and recovery efforts. The team adds to the six City of Vancouver staff members who are already assisting in Calgary.

The contingent is made up of Emergency Operations Centre Command Staff, Task Force leaders, and Task Force team members, including staff from Engineering, Vancouver Fire and Rescue, the Vancouver Police Department, the Park Board, and BC Ambulance Service. Their deployment to Alberta is expected to last roughly 10 to 14 days.

Vancouver’s HUSAR team, known as Canada Task Force 1, was most recently deployed to support the emergency crews dealing with the Johnsons Landing mudslides in July 2012.
