City offers added voting opportunities in the Downtown Eastside and surrounding neighbourhoods

October 1 2018 Shelters and social service drop-in centres to open for voting

We are expanding voting opportunities in the 2018 election by adding homeless shelters and social service drop-in centres to the list of voting locations. We aim to address the diverse barriers facing voters by bringing ballots to citizens within their neighbourhoods.

We heard from communities and updated the Election Bylaw in May to allow for the expansion of the program that included voting at large facilities, such as hospitals and long-term care centres. It now includes smaller facilities, such as shelters and social service drop-in centres. This increases the total number of special voting facilities to 90 in the 2018 election from 51 in the 2014 election.

We will be working with facility administrators to advertise the voting opportunities in the coming days.

From October 9 to 19, voting will take place in these 32 added voting locations. View the full list of 90 special voting locations across the city.
