City welcomes back volunteer litter cleanup program
Volunteers encouraged to show their neighbourhood some love with physically distanced litter cleanups
Our volunteer litter cleanup program, Neighbourhood Cleanup Party, restarts this week with additional safety measures to keep volunteers safe and prevent the spread of COVID-19.
As part of our updated protocols, volunteers will be provided with COVID safety guidelines, gloves, hand sanitizer, pickers, garbage bags, and physical distancing signage and decals. Cleanups are limited to a maximum of 20 volunteers.
Host or join a litter cleanup
Residents, organizations, or businesses can sign up to host or join a litter cleanup at vancouver.ca/cleanup.
Keeping Vancouver’s streets and public spaces clean is a City priority and our crews are working hard through street sweeping, graffiti removal, litter collection, and various other services. Residents and businesses play a valuable role in helping to keep Vancouver clean, vibrant, and litter free. Cleanup parties are a great way to get involved.
The City acknowledges the many neighbourhood heroes who have helped to protect our waterways, shorelines, and marine habitat by keeping our communities litter free during the COVID-19 pandemic. We are all responsible for properly disposing of our waste. Littering personal waste (e.g. used gloves, masks, tissues, sanitary wipes) on the ground is illegal and could result in a fine.
About the Neighbourhood Cleanup Party
Neighbourhood Cleanup Parties are City-supported litter pickup events. The program encourages residents to join or host a neighbourhood cleanup, and the City will provide garbage bags, gloves, and other cleanup tools, and free pick up of litter collected. Our program has welcomed over 320,000 volunteers since it was established 25 years ago.
