Events, decisions, and reports at City Council this week
Vancouver City Council met electronically this week to hear and discuss a variety of topics during Standing Committee on Policy and Strategic Priorities, Public Hearing, and Special Council meetings.
Monday, July 27, 2020
The Standing Committee on Policy and Strategic Priorities meeting reconvened to continue hearing from speakers on the motion Decriminalizing Poverty and Supporting Community-led Safety Initiatives PDF file (20 KB). After debate, this was unanimously approved with amendments.
Tuesday, July 28, 2020
A Public Hearing meeting was reconvened on Tuesday evening to consider the following:
- CD-1 TEXT AMENDMENT: 475 Alexander Street (Japanese Hall) PDF file (24 KB) - approved
- CD-1 REZONING: 6031 Dunbar Street PDF file (28 KB) – approved with amendments as outlined in the memo dated July 28, 2020
Council heard opening comments, asked questions of staff, and began to hear from speakers on CD-1 REZONING: 4750 Granville Street & 1494 West 32nd Avenue PDF file (28 KB). This was referred to the reconvening Public Hearing meeting on Wednesday, July 29.

Special Council began with a staff presentation PDF file (1.6 MB) on Alcohol Consumption in Public Spaces Pilot - Recommendations PDF file (673 KB). After asking questions of staff and debate, this was approved with amendments.
Subsequently, A By-law to amend the City Land Regulation By-law No. 8735 Regarding Consumption of Liquor on City Land PDF file (201 KB) was also approved with amendments (as outlined by the amended motion).
A Public Hearing meeting was then reconvened to finish hearing from speakers on CD-1 REZONING: 4750 Granville Street & 1494 West 32nd Avenue PDF file (28 KB). This was approved with amendments as outlined in the memorandum dated July 28, 2020.
The next Business Licence Hearing is scheduled for September 9, 2020, and the next Council meeting is scheduled for September 15, 2020.
