Extreme Weather Alert

An Extreme Weather Alert (EWA) for Vancouver has issued for December 9 due to heavy rain.

This EWA activates the authorities in the Assistance to Shelter Act for police to assist persons at risk due to extreme weather conditions and remains in effect until it is cancelled, according to sec. 2(2)(b) of the Assistance to Shelter Act.

  • 9:00pm to 6:00am
  • Spaces for men will be made available if the regular 72 shelter beds become full



The Gathering Place

  • 609 Helmcken St
  • 12:00 midnight to 7:00am (for alerts called on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday)
  • Blankets and sleeping mats
  • Food and beverages in the evening and morning



First Baptist Church

  • 969 Burrard St
  • 9:00pm to 7:00am (for alerts called Monday through Thursday)
  • Blankets and sleeping mats
  • Food and beverages in the evening and morning



Catholic Charities

  • 828 Cambie St
  • 8:00pm to 8:00am
  • Men only
  • Food, showers, and laundry



Directions Youth Services Centre

  • 1138 Burrard St at Hornby St
  • 10:00pm to 7:00am
  • Youth only (24 years of age and under
  • Mats provided after midnight
  • Pets accepted (up to 4 maximum)

  • Blankets, pillows, and sleeping mats
  • Coffee and a snack in the morning
  • Opens only if there is sufficient overflow from Harbour Light’s year-round site
