Green Bin collection temporarily suspended

February 6 2017 Crews redeployed to assist with snow-clearing and garbage collection

Snow on a garbage bin

After reviewing forecasted weather conditions for the week, the City has decided to temporarily suspend Green Bin collection in order to focus on garbage collection. Typically, garbage collection occurs every two weeks, with Green Bin collection taking place each week. In the winter months, green bin volumes are lighter as there are no grass or yard trimmings. Green Bin collection is expected to resume Tuesday, February 14, following the Monday holiday.

City crews are continuing to salt and sand hilly streets and hard to access laneways to improve safe access for garbage and recycling collection. The City appreciates residents’ patience as our crews try to safely provide collection services. City crews have added more garbage collection trucks and are working longer hours to service all areas that that may have been missed. Residents are asked to leave their garbage bins out in their regular collection area as staff are working diligently to address all outstanding missed collections.

Recycling update

We are working closely with Multi-Material BC (MMBC) to further coordinate salting and sanding efforts to support recycling collection. Some recycling delays are expected. If resident’s recycling has not yet been collected, MMBC is asking residents to leave their recycling boxes and bags out as additional crews are working to return to missed areas for collection.

Snow update

We anticipate additional snow flurries this evening and will have our full fleet continuing to work overnight to salt and plow roadways as needed.
