Mountain View Cemetery hosts All Souls events

October 24 2014 Honouring the dead through ceremony and celebration

All Souls - baby and man

The 10th annual All Souls, an event series honouring the dead through ceremony and celebration, returns to the City of Vancouver’s Mountain View Cemetery from October 25 to November 2.

All Souls offers you an opportunity to remember your dead, whether they are interred at Mountain View Cemetery or not, in a quiet atmosphere of contemplative beauty.

The events were curated by local artists Paula Jardine and Marina Szijarto, and feature music, art, demonstrations, and memorial-making workshops.

Opening night October 25

The opening night of All Souls, October 25, 6:00pm – 10:00pm, presents music, warming fires, fragrant teas, and the chance to make personal memorials.

The evening will showcase the world premiere of “11”, an original site-specific musical composition by Mark Haney, which marks the 100th anniversary of the start of World War 1.

Events from October 26 – November 2

All Souls programming at Mountain View Cemetery throughout the week includes:

  • October 26, 7:00pm: The Threshold Choir honours the tradition of bedside singing
  • October 28, 7:00pm and 9:00pm: Screening of the movie Harold and Maude
