Almost summer! Outdoor pools open this weekend

May 14 2013

Get ready for summer! Enjoy Vancouver's heated outdoor pools

Get ready for summer in Vancouver: the city's outdoor pools and beaches open this Victoria Day weekend!

The following heated seaside pools open Saturday, May 18:

  • Kitsilano Pool
  • Second Beach Pool
    in Stanley Park
  • New Brighton Pool

The outdoor pool at Hillcrest Aquatic Centre also opens that day.

Maple Grove Pool will open Saturday, June 22.

Outdoor pools operate through the Labour Day weekend – even later, provided warm weather.

Lifeguards and park rangers on duty

Be safe in the water: choose a lifeguarded beach or pool. Lifeguards patrol the Park Board's supervised beaches daily from 11:30am to 8:30pm between the Victoria Day to Labour Day weekends, except when the red light is on at the Lifeguard Station.

Vancouver has 10 supervised ocean beaches that stretch 18 km around Burrard Inlet and English Bay. Trout Lake Beach at John Hendry Park is the city's only supervised, freshwater beach.

Park rangers help you find your way and enjoy your stay

The Park Board's seasonal team of 30 uniformed park rangers are your ambassadors to a safe, enjoyable visit to the city's 230 parks. Rangers help you:

  • Find your way
  • Use park and playing field services
  • Monitor park activities and events
  • Handle park safety issues

For everyone's comfort and safety

  • Leave cigarettes and alcohol at home. Our beaches and parks are smoke- and alcohol-free
  • Keep your dog off the beach and on a leash (except for designated off-leash areas)
  • Use the provided coal pits for your barbeque cooking
  • Do not make fires in parks or on beaches at any time
