Residents invited to join the Annual Spring Neighbourhood Cleanup Party
I am proud of the thousands of volunteers who pitch in to keep our city clean and I’d like to invite all residents to get involved.
Mayor Kennedy Stewart
The City is inviting all Vancouver residents to a party to be proud of – the Neighbourhood Cleanup Party. For more than 24 years residents have been coming together to help clean up neighbourhoods throughout Vancouver with more than 20,000 people participating in the City’s cleanup program each year. On Saturday, May 4, residents can get in the spring cleaning spirit by joining the kick-off event for the City’s Annual Spring Neighbourhood Cleanup Party.
“As a coastal City, it is important for all of us to properly dispose of our waste so that we can help protect our waterways, shorelines and marine habitat,” said Mayor Kennedy Stewart. “I am proud of the thousands of volunteers who pitch in to keep our city clean and I’d like to invite all residents to get involved.”
Benefits to participating
Neighbourhood cleanups are a great way to:
- Get to know your neighbours, make new friends, or spend time with your existing friends and family
- Build pride in your community by helping you feel connected to public spaces and feel comfortable in your streets
- Make your neighbourhood feel safer and more comfortable by showing it is loved and cared for
- Protect the environment by removing litter before it can end up in our waterways and harm our local plants and animals
- Build a healthy and resilient community by meeting your neighbours and building social connections that can help in case of an emergency, such as an earthquake
The City works to keep Vancouver’s streets clean through street sweeping, graffiti removal, litter collection and various other services. Learn more
In addition to that, residents and businesses are a valued part of keeping the city clean, vibrant, and litter free and cleanup parties are a great way to get involved.
When residents host or join a cleanup the City will provide garbage bags, gloves and other cleanup tools, and free pick up of litter collected (we’ll even deliver your supplies!)

“The Neighbourhood Cleanup Party is something that businesses and residents look forward to,” said Jane McFadden, executive Director for West 4th BIA. “It is great to see our neighbourhood cleaner at the end of the day and to see all of the energetic volunteers bring their spring cleaning spirit to a neighbourhood we all care so much about.
