Steve Kellock to lead recreation for Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation
I am excited to be joining the incredible team at the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation. The organization is closely aligned with my values and priorities and is doing exceptional work in the areas of decolonization, equity, diversity and inclusion.
After a nation-wide search, the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation will welcome an experienced and visionary leader of recreation, facility development and design, when Steve Kellock joins the organization as Director of Recreation next month.
Kellock brings more than two decades of experience in municipal parks, recreation, and culture; most recently leading the City of New Westminster as Senior Manager of Recreation Services and Facilities. During his five years with New Westminster, he was responsible for the oversight of recreation services, directing the development and administration of programs, activities, special events, and related facilities.
Kellock brings unique insight into recreation facility development and design and has experience leading multiplex facility development, utilizing state-of-the-art technology while exceeding sustainability goals. Kellock has been leading the New West Aquatic and Community Centre project, which is currently under construction and will be the first aquatic facility of its type in Canada to meet the Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC) zero carbon building standards and certification.
Prior to his time with New West, Kellock held the positions of Community Recreation and Youth Services Manager at the District of West Vancouver and Manager for Arena Operations and Diversity for the City of Abbotsford. He holds a Masters of Business Administration in Executive Management-Leadership from Royal Roads University as well as a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Victoria.
Kellock is a respected leader of recreation across the province. He sits on the Board of Directors as President-elect for the British Columbia Recreation and Parks Association (BCRPA) and is a member of the CEO Advisory Committee for the province’s Restart Plan for the BCRPA. He also serves as a Director on the Canadian Parks and Recreation Association (CPRA).
He is passionate about recreation and community development, and is a champion of inclusion and equity with a focus on recreation and parks for all.
Kellock’s first day as Director of Recreation will be July 19, 2021.
“I am excited to be joining the incredible team at the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation,” said Kellock. “The organization is closely aligned with my values and priorities and is doing exceptional work in the areas of decolonization, equity, diversity and inclusion.
“In addition to being a great fit for me, I’m really looking forward to bringing my experience to the team and supporting the pandemic recovery plan to ensure sport groups get back into play, and the community gets back to their recreational pursuits throughout our region.”
