"This ticket donation program provides a great opportunity for British Columbians to give back to their communities and we are proud to participate in this worthy cause," said Lisa Beare, Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture.

Ice hockey in Vancouver

The 2019 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Junior Championship kicks-off in Vancouver and Victoria on Boxing Day and, as a result of collaboration between Hockey Canada, the City of Vancouver and Park Board, many community groups will be able to attend this world class event.

Ticket donation program

Organizations identified by the City and Park Board, and charities who support those in need, will be offered tickets to a variety of games through the Save-On-Foods Ticket Donation Program which allows ticket holders to give back to the community.

Ticket holders who purchased Full or Half Packs of tickets can donate seats for games they will not be attending to the ticket donation program and they will be redistributed for free to the identified groups, therefore giving many more people the opportunity to enjoy the event.

Opportunity for local youth and community groups

"This ticket donation program provides a great opportunity for British Columbians to give back to their communities and we are proud to participate in this worthy cause," said Lisa Beare, Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture.

"We commend the efforts of Hockey Canada and the City of Vancouver and Park Board to encourage people to donate their extra tickets so others can experience the thrill of seeing world championship hockey in their home town."

Speaking about the program, Michelle Collens, Senior Manager of Sport Hosting at the City of Vancouver said: "This initiative is a fantastic opportunity for us to remove barriers and provide local youth and community groups with the chance to be part of a world-class event. Ensuring that events hosted in Vancouver are accessible to all helps create a lasting sporting legacy and is a priority of the Sport Hosting Vancouver partnership."
