City amplifies public voices through Vancouver Music Strategy Community Conversation Series

May 16 2019 –

As part of the development of the proposed Vancouver Music Strategy, City staff are hosting a free, public conversation series, so Vancouverites can share their opinions to help shape the future of music in Vancouver.

Open to the general public, sessions will consist of a short presentation of the Vancouver Music Strategy, currently in development, followed by facilitated conversation to provide an opportunity for musicians, creators, and the community to give feedback.

Focused engagement sessions

The Conversation Series will be held in addition to focused engagement sessions with members of underrepresented communities (including youth, Indigenous, Black, LGBTQ2S+, and artists of colour, among others) that are currently underway to help inform the final Vancouver Music Strategy report.

Vancouver Music Strategy development

Over the past two years, the Vancouver Music Strategy development has been guided by the Vancouver Music Strategy Steering Committee and Advisory Committee, who have examined the strengths, weaknesses, and gaps that exist within Vancouver’s music ecosystem, and have identified key strategic themes that will guide the next phase of engagement. These include: Municipal Support, Music Ecology Sustainability, Spaces and Places, Audience Engagement, Music Tourism Music Education, Music Artist Development, and Music Industry Professional Development.

The strategic themes, along with recommendations from all phases of engagement, will be presented to Council for their direction in September.
